Description

From the Leisure Centre turn right and follow the Town Centre/Sedbergh signs at the nearby roundabout and the Town Centre/A5284 Windermere signs at the one-way bridge in ¼ mile (400m) (take care, as you have to cross into the right-hand lane).

Continue through town on the main road (following Windermere signs) and 250yds/m after the 2-way road is regained fork right to Burneside (sign Magistrates Court/Burneside - again taking care when crossing into the right-hand lane on this busy road).

Turn right in Burneside (sign Skelsmergh/A6/Longsleddale) to pass by the Spar shop and follow the road and signs Skelsmergh/A6 to the A6, avoiding all turns off it.

At the A6 turn right (sign Kendal) and then in 200yds/m left for Mealbank. Continue on, in ½ + mile (1 km) bearing left (effectively straight on) when a bigger road is joined (unsigned) by a bridge to commence a long, steepish but evenly graded climb before dropping quickly down into Patton Bridge.

Carry on over the bridge (sign Whinfell/Grayrigg), then taking the middle road at a 3-way junction 100yds/m later. Follow the signs and the undulating road to Grayrigg.

There turn left (unsigned) on the main road, and in 50yds/m first right back on yourself (obscure Lambrigg sign). Continue on, until just past the railway bear right at the scissor crossroads (Moorfold/Thatchmoor Head), then soon left at the T-junction (unsigned) and immediately right (unsigned apart from Neighbourhood Watch) at Kiln Head.

Drop down, in 1 mile (2 km) passing Myers farm on your left, where shortly after bear left (effectively straight on sign New Hutton) up the hill and then in ¼ mile (400m) turn first right (unsigned, Cragg Farm) to arrive at the main A684 Kendal to Sedbergh road in a mile (2 km) by the white Tollbar Cottage.

Here turn right onto the A684 and follow it for a mile (2 km), turning left at a crossroads after a small climb (sign Oxenholme/Old Hutton) just before a sharp right-hand bend. The Station Inn is at the crossroads a mile (2 km) further on.

To return to the start simply drop down the hill, going straight on at the 2 sets of traffic lights.
